How to add a custom Minecraft skin
Java uses the launcher’s skin picker. Bedrock uses the dressing room. Both take the same 64×64 PNG.
Blocksmith draws a 64 by 64 skin, including the outer layer for a cape or a hat brim. That is the size Minecraft: Java Edition uses, and the size Bedrock’s dressing room imports. It is not a 128×128 file. Those usually need a mod or another editor, and Blocksmith does not make them.
There are 210 skins in the gallery if you want to see the sheet before you type your own. A knight with a cape and a fox are in the older gallery notes too.
Java Edition
Open the Minecraft Launcher, go to Skins, and create a skin from the PNG. Blocksmith also has a button that copies the file into the Java skins folder so you are not hunting for the download. The skin is tied to the account you are logged into in the launcher. Blocksmith does not change your Microsoft account.
Bedrock
On Minecraft for Windows, open the dressing room, edit the character, and import the PNG. The app saves that Bedrock copy into Downloads and shows the same steps. Choose a classic skin import, not a Marketplace purchase. The file is original art. It is not one of the game’s characters.
Steps
- Paint or generate the PNG. Type a sentence in Blocksmith. The offline reader paints looks it knows without an AI wish. Save the 64×64 PNG.
- Java: pick the file in the launcher. Launcher, Skins, new skin, browse to the PNG. Apply it to the account you play on.
- Bedrock: import in the dressing room. Dressing room, edit character, import the PNG from Downloads. Confirm the cape or hat is on the outer layer by turning the preview.
- If the skin looks like a flat shirt. The file was probably not 64×64, or the outer layer was dropped. Export again from Blocksmith rather than resizing a screenshot.
Girl, boy, cool and aesthetic are ways to phrase the sentence: hair, clothes, colours. The free skins page explains why there is not a separate download folder for each of those words. Do not import a skin that copies a person, or a character from a show, unless you have the right to.
Questions
Why is there no 128×128 download?
Both editions import 64×64 without a mod. That is the file Blocksmith writes.
Can a player under 13 do this?
Yes. Painting a known sentence is offline. No account is required under 13. Importing into Minecraft uses the game’s own account, which is separate.
Does the skin include the Minecraft logo?
No. Blocksmith does not draw the logo, and it does not ship the game’s skins.
Mac and Windows. On a Mac, Blocksmith is notarised by Apple and opens normally. On Windows, the installer isn’t code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may say “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info, then Run anyway.
