A MIDI to note block converter.
Drop a MIDI file you have the right to use. Blocksmith builds a note block machine, simulates the redstone, and writes the function that plays it.
Note blocks in Minecraft: Java Edition play a short set of instruments, two octaves each, when they get a redstone signal. A MIDI file is a list of notes over time. Blocksmith reads the file on your computer, folds the pitches into the range a note block can play, picks an instrument the game actually has, and lays the notes out so a repeater line reaches them on time. A simulator then runs the redstone and checks that the notes which should sound do sound. That check is why a long song does not silently drop a bar.
This is a converter, not a studio. If you want to edit a chart note by note, OpenNBS is the program people already use, and it is free. Blocksmith is the step after you have a MIDI: a machine in a world, a button to start it, and /function blocksmith:play to sit you where you can hear it. The two tools are for different hours of the same hobby.
The chime in the gallery is eight harp notes written for that page. It is not a famous melody with the name filed off. Do not upload a commercial song’s MIDI here or anywhere else in Blocksmith’s site. If you convert one at home, that is between you and the rightsholder. The app does not add a library of songs.
Songs are free and offline. They do not spend an AI wish. They also do not export to Bedrock. The app explains that when you look for the Bedrock button, rather than handing you a pack that cannot play.
Questions
Does this replace OpenNBS?
No. OpenNBS (Note Block Studio) is where you compose and edit a note block song on a piano roll. Blocksmith takes a MIDI file you already have and builds a machine that plays it in a Java world.
Will it convert a copyrighted song?
The converter will process a MIDI you give it. You are responsible for having the right to use that file. The gallery does not host copyrighted songs. The chime on this site is eight notes written for the page.
Does the song work on Bedrock?
No. Tuning a note block from a command, the way this machine works, is a Java Edition feature. Blocksmith says so in the app instead of writing a Bedrock file that would not play.
