How to build a house in Minecraft

A house is a floor you trust, walls that meet, and a roof that covers the door.

Modern house is one example: 758 blocks, sentence “a modern house”, watch 45 seconds. The house ideas page has the other 22. Starter size is covered separately, because a first house and a modern house are different jobs.

Steps

  1. Floor first. Lay the footprint in a block you can see against the grass. Change your mind now, not after the roof.
  2. Walls and corners. Two blocks of wall between windows is enough to read as a house. Corners want the sturdier block, or the whole thing looks like a shed.
  3. Roof. Step the roof in by one each course, or keep it flat and modern. A flat roof still needs a lip so you don’t walk off it. Cover the door.
  4. Door, light, one room of use. Bed, chest, crafting, furnace. Then stop. A second storey is optional. The starter tips page is the survival version of this list.

Medieval houses are the spruce, brick and stone ones on medieval builds. Quartz is modern builds. The datapack path is the same as a castle: install the datapack, then /function blocksmith:build.

Questions

How tall should it be?

Three blocks inside is comfortable. Two feels like a crawl. The gallery’s size tag tells you whether a plan is small, medium, large or huge before you start.

What if I only have dirt and wood?

Build a smaller plan. The material list will tell you when a house is mostly quartz or deepslate. Don’t start that one on night one.

Can the app build the modern house offline?

Yes. “a modern house” is a sentence the offline reader knows. It does not spend an AI wish.
